United Way annual Community Campaign raises $1,500,326, topping goal
CARLISLE, PA – The United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County’s campaign co-chairs, Beth Jones of Dickinson College, and Laura Potthoff of F&M Trust – announced the results of the 2024 United Way Campaign on Jan. 16 at a breakfast sponsored by Members 1st. A total of $1,500,326 has been raised through current and expected pledges to support community-based programs.
“We set an ambitious goal for ourselves last summer—to raise $1.5 million for our community,” said Laura Potthoff of F&M Trust, who served as campaign co-chair this year. “We are so grateful to our community for making this a success.”
The 2024 United Way campaign began this summer with 55 local companies and 45 volunteers participating and ended with more than 1,100 donors pledging their support to United Way.
In addition to announcing the totals from this year’s campaign, United Wayawarded special recognition to several top performing companies including: Allen Distribution, Tuckey Companies, Carlisle Area School District and the Rahal Family Foundation with the Campaign Awards of Excellence.
Division Chairman Awards were presented to Allen Distribution, Carlisle Area School District, GET Leasing, Morgan Stanley, Mountz Jewelers, Orrstown Bank, Tuckey Companies, and the Rahal Family Foundation.
The winner of the grand prize Travel United package made possible by a gift from M&T Bank was Jeanette Diamond from Dickinson College.
As is the case every year, the dollar total announced includes contributions already turned in or reported, as well as estimated or conservative projected final figures on a number of campaigns still underway. About 90 percent of the campaign has been processed or officially reported. The remaining amount is projected and must be finalized in the next few months.
“Over the past several years, donors have tended to wait until later in the year to make decisions about the amount of their gift. This year, over $500,000 in donations came in just the last 4 weeks of the campaign,” said Executive Director Cate Mellen.
“We know that this has been a challenging year for many in our community, and some have had to cut back on charitable giving as they see their own expenses go up,” said Campaign Co-Chair Beth Jones of Dickinson College. “But we also know that the need in our community has only increased this year, and we are so grateful to each and every one of our donors for their generous support.”
The United Way provides funding to 34 local programs operated by 23 non-profit partner agencies working to address the community’s most pressing needs. In addition to funding programs, the United Way provides heating assistance, pre-k educational scholarships, and the Success By 6 initiative.
