Each year, Dickinson College students prevent abundant landfill waste by choosing to donate thousands of gently used items to United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County’s U-Turn Community Yard Sale. It is our way to Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle, and the dollars raised all go back to help our community.
SCHEDULE FOR 2026
7:30 am to 8:30 a.m.: Early bird shopping. $5 ENTRY FEE at door.
8:30 a.m. to noon: Everyone shops for FREE!
11 a.m. to noon: $5 Fill-A-Bag Sale (We sell you a 13-gallon to fill)

We can use volunteer help from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10-11 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 12 to help get us ready. Setup involves unloading 2 tractor-trailers of donations from Dickinson College students, staff and faculty. Volunteers sort, fold, clean and organize the items. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting a little dirty and sweaty. The sale setup takes place in Building T and involves a lot of walking. We will be both indoors and outdoors, unloading donations off the tractor-trailers and sorting them inside the open garage-style building. It is usually pretty warm, so dress appropriately. Lunch will be provided as well as drinks. We can also use help on June 13, the day of the event.
We also might need some help with Dickinson College Campus Collection Days (on and around the Dickinson campus) from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 17, and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 18. Those dates are not on the signup form, but you can email Jason Maddux at [email protected] to let him know about those dates.
