CARLISLE, PA – The United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County’s campaign co-chair, Dr. Alan Moyer from South Middleton School District announced the results of the 2016 United Way Campaign this morning at a breakfast sponsored by Giant Food Stores. A total of $1,431,460 has been raised through current and expected pledges to support community-based programs.
The 2016 United Way campaign began this summer with more than 100 companies and 78 volunteers participating and ended with more than 2,600 donors pledging their support to United Way.
In addition to announcing the totals from this year’s campaign, Moyer awarded special recognition to several top performing companies including: Tuckey Companies, Allen Distribution and Giant Food Stores with the Campaign Award of Excellence for Small, Medium, and Large Company. Also receiving recognition was Strickler Agency, Most Improved Award.
Division Chairman Awards were presented to Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Carlisle Family YMCA, Tuckey Companies, M&T Bank, Dickinson College, Giant Food Stores, Keen Transport, Allen Distribution and Frog, Switch & Manufacturing Company.
The winner of the grand prize Travel United package sponsored by M&T Bank was Pattie Parsons from Tuckey Companies.
As is the case every year, the dollar total announced includes contributions already turned in or reported, as well as estimated or conservative projected final figures on a number of campaigns still underway. About 92 percent of the campaign has been processed or officially reported. The remaining amount is projected and must be finalized in the next few months.
“Each campaign year we strive to raise more money to support the increasing requests for funding. We knew going in to this campaign that to exceed or even match last year’s announced total of $1,419,631 would be challenging.” Lucy Zander, Executive Director said “We put forth a challenge to our community, local businesses and organizations and I’m pleased to say they came through with very generous gifts. We’ve exceeded last year’s total, but still have some additional work to do to reach last year’s year-end total of $1,438,720.”
Next year’s campaign co-chairs are Tom Bream of Integrity Bank, and Greg Hall of Smith Elliott Kearns & Company.
Moyer thanked the community for its generous support during this campaign year and encouraged those who haven’t yet given to the United Way to do so by calling (717) 243-4805 or donating online at www.uwcarlisle.org/donate.
The community was entertained by the Boiling Springs Bubbler Rock Band and their rendition of “Dream On” and “Celebration”.
