Early Childhood Education Family Engagement Grant 2021-2022 School Year
Description of Grant Proposal: Success By 6, the early childhood initiative of the United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County, works to ensure that every child in Cumberland County is prepared and ready to succeed by the time they enter kindergarten. One of the most important factors impacting children’s academic success comes from the support of students’ families. When parents are engaged, children are more likely to succeed. Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, directors of early childhood education centers may submit a grant application to Success by 6 to fund the cost of family engagement activities.
Family Engagement: For the purposes of this grant application, family engagement is defined as a shared partnership between home and school with the goal of helping children grow and thrive. Applicants may utilize this grant funding to conduct one or more family engagement activities throughout the 2021-2022 school year. Applications will be accepted at any time and one grant application may be submitted to encompass several family engagement activities.
Proposed Family Engagement Activities: Applicants may utilize this grant funding for family engagement activities that focus on such topics as literacy, numeracy, social and emotional learning, STEM, purposeful play, PA Learning Standards for Early Childhood, transition to kindergarten, Ready Rosie, positive behavior supports, developmental milestones, parent resources, etc. Applicants may request funding for other family engagement activities not listed here provided the grant application meets all requirements and focuses on connecting families with the early childhood education center. Funding cannot be used to hold meetings with parents or for parent conferences.
Funding Requirements and Time Line: Grant applicants must complete the attached application and submit it to Karen M. Quinn, Director of Success By 6, at least 30 days prior to your scheduled activity. Grant funding may be used for the following costs associated with your family engagement event: 1) professional services/fees, 2) refreshments/food, 3) supplies,
4) Instructional materials, 5) childcare costs during the event, and 6) hourly rate costs for early childhood educators to conduct the event. Success by 6 will reimburse early childhood education centers within 30 days of submission of the grant evaluation with itemized invoices and receipts. Directors may request a maximum of $300 per family engagement event.
